5 Refreshing Recipes That Taste Better With Fridge-Filtered Water

When we think about the ingredients that make a recipe great, we consider the freshest vegetables, the ripest fruit, and the finest herbs. But one ingredient often goes completely unnoticed — and it's in almost every recipe you make: water.

If you have a fridge with a built-in water filter, you already have access to cleaner, better-tasting water right in your kitchen. And when you cook with it, drink it, and blend with it, that difference shows up in every sip and every dish.

Here are five of our favourite recipes to make the most of your filtered water — perfect for the Bank Holiday weekend and the warmer months ahead.

Why Does Filtered Water Make a Difference?

UK tap water is safe to drink, but it often contains chlorine, limescale, and other minerals that can affect the taste of what you're making. This is especially noticeable in drinks where water is the star — think herbal teas, fruit-infused water, or smoothies.

Fridge-filtered water removes these unwanted tastes and odours, giving you a clean, neutral base that lets the natural flavours of your ingredients shine through. If your filter is past its six-month replacement date, you may have noticed the taste starting to change — that's your cue to replace it before your recipes suffer too.

1. 🥤 Cucumber & Mint Infused Water

A British spa classic — hydrating, light, and endlessly refreshing. This one works best when the base water has no chlorine aftertaste to compete with the delicate flavours.

You'll need:

1 litre of chilled fridge-filtered water

      ½ cucumber, thinly sliced

A small handful of fresh mint leaves

      Juice of ½ a lemon

      Ice to serve

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a large jug. Leave to infuse in the fridge for at least one hour, or overnight for a stronger flavour. Serve over ice. The cleaner your base water, the more the cucumber and mint shine through.

2. 🍓 Frozen Berry Smoothie

A quick, nutritious breakfast or post-garden smoothie. Filtered water instead of milk keeps it light and lets the fruit flavours come forward — great for those watching their dairy intake.

You'll need:

      200ml fridge-filtered water

      150g frozen mixed berries

      1 banana

1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

A handful of oats (optional, for extra substance)

Method:

Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Adjust water to get your preferred consistency. Serve immediately. Using filtered water means no unwanted mineral aftertaste clashing with the berries.

3. 🥣 Simple Summer Gazpacho

A chilled Spanish classic that's become a fixture in British kitchens during the warmer months. Filtered water is essential here — it forms part of the soup base, so any off-taste will come straight through.

You'll need:

      500g ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped

      ½ cucumber, peeled and chopped

1 red pepper, deseeded and chopped

      1 garlic clove

      3 tbsp olive oil

      2 tbsp red wine vinegar

      150ml fridge-filtered water

      Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Blend all vegetables together with the garlic, oil, and vinegar. Add filtered water gradually until you reach a smooth, pourable consistency. Season well, then chill for at least two hours before serving. Top with a drizzle of olive oil and croutons.

4. 🍋 Homemade Lemon Barley Water

A proper British classic — the kind your nan used to make. Traditional lemon barley water is made almost entirely of water and lemon, which means the quality of what goes in makes all the difference.

You'll need:

      75g pearl barley

      1.2 litres fridge-filtered water

Zest and juice of 2 unwaxed lemons

3 tbsp caster sugar or honey, to taste

Method:

Rinse the barley and place in a saucepan with 600ml of filtered water. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 20 minutes. Strain, reserving the liquid. Add lemon zest, juice, and sweetener to the warm liquid, stir to dissolve, then top up with the remaining 600ml of cold filtered water. Chill and serve over ice. Wonderfully refreshing for a Bank Holiday afternoon.

5. 🫖 Herbal Iced Tea

An ideal summer alternative to sugary drinks. Whether you prefer chamomile, peppermint, or a fruity blend, starting with clean filtered water gives you a purer, more aromatic result — no chlorine edge to muddy the herbal notes.

You'll need:

      1 litre fridge-filtered water

4 herbal tea bags (peppermint, chamomile, or berry — your choice)

      Honey or agave to taste

Fresh lemon slices and ice to serve

Method:

Bring 500ml of filtered water to a gentle boil. Steep the tea bags for 5–7 minutes (longer for stronger flavour). Remove the bags, add sweetener while still warm, then pour into a jug and top up with 500ml of cold filtered water. Add lemon and ice. Chill before serving.

Is Your Filter Ready for It?

All of these recipes start with one thing — clean, great-tasting water. And that starts with a filter that's doing its job properly.
